I was at Fort Hood from Aug until Oct 1956 taking basic training again. We had a few other pior service members and we were all told that they was short of carade and we had to be kept to help in the training. We were selected to be Squad leaders.
A roomer came around during training that everyone was going to Fort Sill OK. to be cooks in the Artillery. So I deceived to enlist in the Active Army. They offered my Radio Repair and sounded better than being a cook in the Artillery. When we got our orders to leave Fort Hood most of the guys did go to the Artillery in Fort Sill. I sure didn’t want to be a cook.
